Honours for Shrewsbury cricketers
Thursday 6th January 2011, 7:00PM GMT.
Two members of Shrewsbury Cricket Club’s Birmingham League title winning side will receive more accolades later this month.
Captain and opening batsman Ed Foster has been named the League’s player of the year and will be given his award at the annual meeting at Moseley on January 19.
And, on the same night, young leg spinner Elliot Green will be presented with the Albert Birkenhead Trophy after being nominated as young player of the year.
Foster retained the trophy – which has previously been won by Wellington’s Adam Byram – after being the premier division’s top scorer with 799 runs.
And Green picked up 46 wickets – including an incredible nine in the title decider with Kidderminster – at an average of just under 17.
It is understood Green is the first Shropshire player to win the young player gong.
