Ted Hankey admits he wasn’t playing his best darts
Tuesday 4th January 2011, 12:41PM GMT.
Shropshire darter Ted Hankey admitted he was well below his best after seeing his dreams of a third BDO World Championship end at the first hurdle.
The 2000 and 2009 champion, who is based in Aqueduct in Telford, was beaten 3-0 in the first round at Frimley Green by Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites.
Hankey lost the first set 3-0 before losing the next two sets in the deciding legs.
“Scott was better,” Hankey said. “I didn’t play well and you can’t afford not to bring your best game to the stage when you play someone like Scott.”
Meanwhile, Stoke thrower Adrian Lewis was today celebrating the biggest success of his darting career.
The 25-year-old won last night’s PDC World Championship final against Gary Anderson 7-5 — and also threw a nine-dart finish.
