Ex-TNS Cale out to topple old pals

Newtown coach Andy Cale returns to his old haunt when a depleted Robins fly in to tackle The New Saints at Park Hall tomorrow.
Cale (above) and his assistant Lee Williams left the Welsh Premier champions at the end of last season, before linking up again at Newtown this season.
And now they are back at Park Hall in the opposite camp as they look to turn the tables on their old pals in their battle for league survival.
However, so limited are their resources that Cale has called in former Welshpool, Walsall and Rochdale full back Wayne Evans out of retirement to bolster his decimated squad.
“Wayne signed as cover at the start of the season and agreed to help out should there be selection problems,” said Cale.
“Well we certainly have selection problems for the TNS game and it will be great to have him in the squad.”
Newtown have signed striker Tom Rowlands from Airbus UK and Bridgnorth midfielder Robbie MIllington, but the duo are ineligible for tomorrow’s action.
Despite Newtown’s problems, TNS boss Mike Davies has warned his side need to be on their guard as they look to reel off a ninth straight win at home.
“Newtown probably know more about us than anyone else so we are expecting a tough game,” said Davies. “We’ve not beaten them for two years at home so we won’t take anything for granted.”
Wing back Chris Marriott remains on the sidelines through suspension and front runner Matty Williams continues to be troubled by back problems.
It’s a massive game for both sides, with the Saints battling to hang on to leaders Bangor City who extended their advantage at the top to 16 points after their 2-1 victory over Prestatyn in midweek.
The two clubs are champing at the bit after suffering at the hands of the icy weather this month, which saw the first meeting between the sides at Latham Park on Boxing Day postponed because of snow.
