Kieron Gray set for biggest night of his boxing career

Shropshire’s Kieron Gray was today preparing for the biggest night of his boxing life – admitting it could be his last bout, writes JAMES GARRISON.

The 32-year-old from Horsehay inTelford takes on Jamie Ball, of Coseley in the Black Country, for the Midlands light middleweight title at Birmingham’s Holiday Inn.

Gray, a builder by trade, has won five and lost three of his eight professional fights to date but admits tonight could be his final appearance in the ring.

“I’m not saying it will be the end but there is a possibility it could be my last fight,” said Gray. “I have got exams to do at college in March and my second child is due to arrive in May so I may not have much time for training.

“We will see but I’m determined to give it everything tonight.

“I’m feeling really strong and the training couldn’t have gone any better.

“Even though I have been working, I have still been training two or three times a day.

“Jamie Ball is unbeaten (in 10 contests) but he hasn’t boxed anybody decent yet and I’m really confident.”

Gray will be backed by around 60 supporters who will make the trip from Shropshire, including several members of Telford Amateur Boxing Club where he used to be a member.

Both boxers weighed in at 10st 13lbs yesterday, just below the 11st limit.
