Defender Mat Sadler hopes to help elevate Shrewsbury Town into the League Two automatic promotion places over Christmas – before sorting out his own future.

The on-loan left-back has been a regular starter in boss Graham Turner’s team since joining on a six-month deal from Watford in the summer.

Having cost the Hornets £750,000 when they signed him from Birmingham City in January 2008, the 25-year-old arrived at the Greenhous Meadow eager to prove a point.

He feels he has gone some way to doing that and admits he is enjoying his stint in Shropshire – but revealed that he had not yet had any contact about extending the loan beyond January.

“I’m enjoying every minute of it here, it’s fantastic,” said Sadler, who was playing for Birmingham in the Premier League as recently as three years ago.

“I’ve played a lot of games, which was my main aim when I signed, and hopefully we can get right back up into the shake-up for automatic promotion over Christmas.

“A couple more wins and we’ll be right up there in the top three, where we want to be.

“Nothing has been said to me from either side about staying on longer but I think it’s something that will be dealt with when Christmas is out of the way,” he added.

Sadler has had no contact with Watford boss Malky Mackay since joining Shrewsbury.
