Boss Graham Turner has opened talks in a bid to hold on to Shrewsbury Town loan stars Mark Wright and Mat Sadler.

Both players joined the npower League Two promotion hopefuls on six month deals at the start of the season and are due to return to their parent clubs in January.

Winger Wright, 28, has been a revelation since arriving from Bristol Rovers, bagging 10 goals so far to top the Greenhous Meadow goal charts.

Left-back Mat Sadler, 25, has also impressed since his switch from Watford, who had paid £750,000 for his services when they took him from Birmingham City.

"We've started to talk to both clubs," Turner confirmed today.

"There's not been a lot of progress so far but I will be attempting to keep both players.

"They have both played a lot of games for us - Mark Wright has been amongst the goals and Mat Sadler has been very steady at left-back since he came in."

Turner insists he has not been surprised by the impact the duo have made since their loan moves to Shropshire.

And he revealed he had also tried to sign Wright while in charge at Hereford, only missing out when Paul Ince took charge at Milton Keynes Dons and pinched the player from under his nose.

"We knew what we were getting with Mark and he's fulfilled expectations," added the Town boss.

"There's a possibility that other clubs might have been alerted by his goals and Bristol Rovers might want to keep him, but that's something we've known we're going to have to face for the last two months.

"I think he's had two clubs where it's not worked out for him (at Brighton and Bristol Rovers) and it's going well for him here so we'd hope he's enjoying it and would want to stay," he added.
