John Higgins dreaming of snooker fairytale
Thursday 9th December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Returning snooker star John Higgins today targeted a fairytale comeback to snooker with a third 12Bet.com UK Championship crown in Shropshire this weekend.
Higgins moved into the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament at the Telford International Centre with a 9-7 victory over Stephen Maguire last night.
It preserved Higgins’ stunning record since returning from a six month suspension – that was his 16th victory in 17 matches – for bringing the sport into disrepute by failing to report an approach during match fixing allegations.
But the 35-year-old is taking nothing for granted in pursuit of the £100,000 top prize.
“It’s beyond my wildest dreams to come back and win so many games and I’m just enjoying it,” said Higgins.
“I’m feeling good about my game but there is still a mountain to climb with the players left in it.”
Higgins will now take on Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen in the first semi-final tomorrow.
The last two remaining quarter-finals were being staged today with Shaun Murphy taking on current world champion and world No 1 Neil Robertson while Walsall’s Mark Joyce was facing the biggest match of his career against Welshman Mark Williams.
