Steve Abbott in move to Chorley

AFC Telford United forward Steve Abbott has joined Chorley on loan.

The former The New Saints striker only joined the club in the summer but has found himself down the pecking order at the New Bucks Head with Andy Brown, Alex Meechan, James Lawrie and Adam Proudlock all ahead of him in the queue.

The 28-year-old has still managed to make 13 appearances for the Bucks this term netting three goals.

Abbott joins a Chorley side managed by former Blackburn Rovers star Garry Flitcroft for an initial one month period.

And Flitcroft, who may hand the target man his debut in today’s Evo-Stik league division one north clash with Witton Albion said he was pleased to bring the former Wrexham man to the club.

He said: “Steve is a big, powerful presence and, after speaking to Andy Sinton at Telford and Dean Saunders at Wrexham, he comes highly recommended.

“He’s 6ft 3in and has spent most of his career playing at a higher level so he gives me another good option.

“It was important to get an extra body in for what will be a busy period.”

Abbott will link up with former Telford star Jamie Vermiglio who now plys his trade for Chorley.
