TNS set to take on Carmarthen Town

The New Saints seek a maximum return on the road when they travel to Carmarthen Town tomorrow – their second Welsh Premier trek in the space of four days.

It’s another game the defending champions really need to win if they hope to make inroads into Bangor City’s imposing 12-point lead at the top.

And no sooner have they returned from Wednesday night’s 250-round trip to Neath, where they were held 1-1, the Saints are now back on their travels to West Wales this weekend.

Their form on the road has been disappointing, with just one victory, two defeats and three draws coming from their six outings to date.

But TNS can take confidence from the fact they hammered Carmarthen 7-0 at Park Hall earlier in the campaign, even though they know that points will be harder earned tomorrow.

“It’s not ideal having two long trips in the space of a few days, but you’ve got to make them at some time and it’s good to get them out of the way,” said Saints boss Mike Davies.

“People will point to our away form this season, but we’ve not had much luck.

“It was disappointing not to get three points at Neath, a basic error cost us at the end, but it was always going to be a tough place to go as they’re a good side.

“We now need to try and win every game if we’re going to catch Bangor, and we must make sure we pick up three points tomorrow.

“But I’m expecting Carmarthen to make it tough for us. They’ve had some good results lately, and their boss Tomi Morgan was manager of the month for October.”

The Saints had looked set for only their second away win of the campaign a Neath in midweek only to be denied by a Lee Trundle penalty 10 minutes from time.
