Mark Wright could extend Shrewsbury Town stay
Wednesday 24th November 2010, 1:01PM GMT.
Derby hero Mark Wright has his sights on remaining on the Shrewsbury Town goal trail – after hinting he would be keen on extending his stay beyond January.
Wright, who is on loan from Bristol Rovers until the new year, fired a hat-trick in last night’s comfortable 4-0 derby triumph over Hereford at the Greenhous Meadow.
That victory moved Shrewsbury up one place to fourth in League Two and took Wright to the top of the club’s goalscoring charts.
The 28-year-old Wolverhampton-born winger now has 10 for the campaign and eight in his last eight matches.
Wright, who has previously been promoted from League Two with Walsall and MK Dons, insists he is unclear what the future holds for him once January arrives.
But he insists he would be open to the possibility of staying with Shrewsbury.
“I’m back home and am really enjoying my football so I don’t see why not,” Wright said.
“I’m not sure on the future yet – nothing has been said. I’m here until January and we will speak around then.”
Wright admitted he was thrilled with his hat-trick, his second in professional football after managing the same feat for MK Dons against Bury in February 2008.
“It’s always good to get a hat-trick and I enjoyed the first goal the most,” he added.
“The lads are trying to say it was a cross but it was a shot. The most pleasing thing is a good performance from the team and getting the win.
Manager Graham Turner was delighted with both Wright’s and his team’s display. “It was a good performance,” he said. “There wasn’t a lot in the first half but second half, we played as well as we have done for a good while.
“Mark got goals at Walsall and MK Dons when those sides were promoted and he is doing the same for us.
“He has a terrific sense of getting into the right place.”
Turner hasn’t given up hope of bringing in a loan player ahead of tomorrow’s deadline and must also decide whether to extend to try and extend the temporary deal for Tope Obadeyi from Bolton.
Some of the Town players not involved last night were due to take on Wrexham in a behind closed doors friendly today.
