Turner will give Geohaghon fitness test ahead of Southend
Friday 19th November 2010, 3:11PM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner will give a late fitness check to centre half Exodus Geohaghon ahead of tomorrow’s League Two clash with Southend United.
The loan star picked up a knee injury in the draw with Stevenage last week and his absence would add to a growing injury headache at the Greenhous Meadow.
Winger Lionel Ainsworth and full back David Raven are both ruled out of tomorrow while long-term absentees Nathan Elder and Kris Bright remain sidelined.
But Turner said he was still hopeful Geohaghon could make the starting XI.
He said: “It’s in the balance. We’ll see how he is in the morning. It is knee ligament damage which he picked up in a tackle late in the game at Stevenage.
“He’s continuing with treatment and we’ll leave it as late as we can. David Raven will train with the rest of the first team squad for the first time today.
“The Southend game will probably come too soon for him. Lionel is still a week or so away.”
Should Geohaghon miss out it would mean a return for skipper Ian Sharps, who was forced to settle for a place on the bench last week following his own return to fitness.
Meanwhile, Turner has warned his players to take nothing for granted as they bid to cement their place in the top three with six points from two homes against Southend and Hereford United on Tuesday.
He added: “We can’t take anything for granted. Recently we have had a couple of good results. The danger is that we come home and expect it to happen for us but it won’t.
“Both Southend and then Hereford will be tough games and we have to be guarded.
“We saw last week with Chesterfield losing at home, Bury losing at home and Chelsea losing at home that it can happen.”
Meanwhile young Town defender Harry Hooman has joined Blue Square Bet North outfit Hinckley United on a month’s loan.
The 19-year-old is expected to make his debut in tomorrow’s FA Trophy clash with FC United of Manchester.
