Steve Bull backs Matt Jarvis for England
Saturday 13th November 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Wolves legend Steve Bull today insisted an England call-up for Matt Jarvis could open the floodgates for more Molineux stars to catch the eye of Fabio Capello.
Winger Jarvis has been named in the provisional squad for Wednesday’s friendly against France at Wembley.
The 24-year-old will know for certain if he has made the cut at 8pm tonight when the final selection is announced.
But he is likely to remain in the squad and Bully, the last Wolves player to win a Three Lions cap in October 1990, believes others could follow Jarvis.
“It’s great for the lad and it’s a proud day for Wolves if he gets in the full squad because it’s been a long time since anyone in gold and black was picked for England,” said Bull, who won 13 caps and featured at the 1990 World Cup.
“It’s helped put the club on the map in a positive way and rightly so, because we play good football.
“It just shows what can happen. They don’t normally pick players from clubs outside the top half of the table, let alone the bottom three. But now Matt’s in there, you might see one or two more Wolves lads on the England scene.
“Karl Henry has had his critics but he’s put that behind him and has got back to believing in himself who’s to say he can’t be the next one?”
