Wolves legend Bert Williams this afternoon received his MBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

The former England ace, known as The Cat for his sporting prowess between the posts and as one of the best goalkeepers in history, was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list earlier this year.

The 90-year-old, from Shifnal, was awarded the accolade for his services to football and charity. He has raised more than £100,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Mr Williams’ special date in London started last night when he was entertained by Lord Bilston at the Houses of Parliament. The pair were both born in Bradley, Bilston, and went to the same school.
