Southampton 2 Shrewsbury Town 0
Saturday 6th November 2010, 5:36PM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town suffered late heartbreak as they bowed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle after an undeserved defeat to League One Southampton.
Town looked to have done enough to earn a replay at the Greenhous Meadow with the scores goalless heading into three minutes of injury time.
But late strikes from substitute David Connolly and Adam Lallana ensured the League One side advanced.
Shrewsbury, disciplined and well organised throughout, enjoyed their best spell at the end of the first half with Dean Holden twice going close.

I’m a Saints fan and was at the game today. I thought the Shrews played very well and their defence was resilient. Unfortunately when the Shrews are up against a team who can play with 4 top strikers it has to be expected that one will score.
Better luck next time.

I used to live in Shropshire and I was proud of the way you stopped us for 92 mins. The comments in the local paper (Daily Echo) are praising your players and fans, it was going to be a tough game for you but you did better than some teams in League 1 where I am sure you will be next season.
Well done Shrews, and best of luck for the rest of the season.

Great effort lads and bad luck.Saints were just to strong for us in the end but we showed we are capable of holding our own, and could have been different with a bit more luck just before half time after a good spell for us.
Great atmosphere and fantastic support as always it just seems to grow and grow and nice to see the team seem to appreciate it
Well done
