Exodus Geohaghon wants Shrews victory over Southampton
Thursday 4th November 2010, 12:51PM GMT.
Loan ranger Exodus Geohaghon is eyeing the perfect end to a hectic first week at Shrewsbury Town by instigating an FA Cup giant-killing this weekend.
The 25-year-old, who has joined from Peterborough until January, was a late arrival to solve Town’s defensive injury crisis for the 2-1 victory at Crewe.
Now the giant centre-back is eyeing a quickfire double success on the road by securing a famous triumph at League One Southampton on Saturday.
“There is always a chance of causing an upset in the FA Cup,”said Geohaghon.
“I’ve played at clubs where they have done it on a regular basis.
“If we play like we did on Tuesday night and put in the same effort then anything is possible.
“I didn’t even realise the Cup draw when I joined on Tuesday so to go down there and play at Southampton is a bonus.”
Geohaghon revealed he only learned of Shrewsbury’s interest on Tuesday morning — and had two other loan options to consider at the same time before dashing to join Graham Turner’s side at Crewe.
“When I woke up on Tuesday morning, I thought I would be going south instead of north and as it turned out I ended up at Shrewsbury,” he added.
“I got a call from Barry Fry (Peterborough director of football) on Tuesday morning to say Shrewsbury had been in touch and wanted me to come.
“There was a League One club down south interested but that dragged on and then another team who came in at the 11th hour.
“But I wanted to come to Shrewsbury and help the lads out.
“I played against Shrewsbury for Rotherham earlier in the season so I knew at first hand what they were all about and that helped me make my decision to come here.
“Tuesday was a long day and I spent most of it on the motorway. It was very unorthodox and I didn’t really know any of the lads.
“Getting the three points at Crewe was great but there is definitely more to come from me and hopefully I can show that on Saturday.”
