A Phil Trainer header got AFC Telford United back to winning ways in the Blue Square Bet North.

The midfielder struck with a devastating header on 29 minutes, capping off a flowing move from the Bucks.

It was harsh on Stalybridge, who competed well in the first half and created several opportunities of their own.

But Telford controlled the second half and went closest to adding to the scoresheet when James Lawrie’s cross from the left was almost turned into his own net by Stalybridge defender Alan White.

Lawrie and Adam Proudlock were also denied by home keeper Jan Budtz while Trainer had two chances to add to his tally.

But the one goal proved enough for Telford, who remain unbeaten in the league heading into November.
