Over a dozen Telford fans whose side were without a game took up Market Drayton’s offer of cut-price tickets for this match – and probably left Greenfields wondering why on earth their neighbours had waited so long to pick up their first Evo-Stik League League point of the season, writes TERRY MORRIS.

For Town looked anything but a side anchored at the foot of the table after nine league games and out of the season’s glamour contests, the FA Cup and FA Trophy, as they secured 2-2 with Lincoln United.

Drayton did not always play particularly well but they showed spirit, commitment and command far beyond that normally seen from teams in their perilous position.

At times they looked like taking an ordinary Lincoln outfit apart; in truth, they should have wrapped it up inside the hour.

That they didn’t might best be explained by the goals. Town’s were stunners, superbly taken and really well crafted; the reward for hard work.

Lincoln’s were sloppy, silly, gifts. Or, as Town manager Simon Line observedwere “very avoidable.”

He added: “I thought we did enough to deserve victory but a point is a point and it’s at least a start.”

Town took a stunning lead on eight minutes when Will Richards glanced a near post header into the net.

But 20 minute later, Lincoln were level when Sam Mullarkey swivelled smartly with Drayton’s defence disorganised.

Rolling

The first 15 minutes of the second half saw Martyn Pryce, Mark Grice. Richards, Tom Rogers and Rob Stevenson, having his best home game since joining the club, all go close.

Town looked like paying for it when, on 62 minutes, goalkeeper Andy Pryce and full back Ashley Burd got their lines of communication crossed dealing with a breakaway and Lincoln sub Luke Boyce was left rolling the ball into an empty net.

But Town dragged themselves off the floor and fought back with a superb 76th minute equaliser from Tom Rogers, racing in from the right to rifle home after a cultured clip over the Lincoln defence by promising newcomer Dorryl Proffett.

Pryce redeemed himself with two cracking saves as both sides battled for a winner in the closing minutes and Phil McGann, his Lincoln counterpart, also did well keeping out Grice and Rogers.
