Chesterfield 4 Shrewsbury 3

Danny Whittaker of Chesterfield and Lionel Ainsworth of Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury slipped seven points behind League Two leaders Chesterfield after being edged out in a thrilling seven-goal encounter.

Town looked set for a grim afternoon as they trailed 4-0 heading into the final 10 minutes.

But a dramatic late recovery brought goals from Mark Wright, Kevin McIntyre and Craig Disley to set up a frantic finale.

After an even opening, Chesterfield ran riot before half time with three goals in 16 minutes.

The deadlock was broken on 29 minutes by Drew Talbot before Jack Lester and Shropshire-born Craig Davies put the hosts in command by half-time.

The game looked up for Graham Turner’s side when Davies grabbed his second and Chesterfield’s fourth on 62 minutes.

But Town didn’t lie down and Wright poked home from 20 yards with 10 minutes remaining before smart finishes from McIntyre and Disley made for a nervy conclusion.

    “Shropshire-born Craig Davies”??
Since when has Burton-on-Trent been in Shropshire?
Craig Davies was born in STAFFORDSHIRE not Shropshire.
