Market Drayton Town sign Dorryl Proffitt
Friday 22nd October 2010, 1:31PM BST.
A striker who once played in the same England age groups squad as Wayne Rooney has signed for Market Drayton Town.
Dorryl Proffitt agreed to join the Evo Stik League division one south basement boys last night and will be available for tomorrow’s home clash with Lincoln United.
Proffitt began his career with Manchester City where he earned a three-year contract as a teenager and represented England at every level from under 16 to under 20 – joining Rooney in the early stages of his international career.
He has also had spells with Coventry and Millwall before dropping into the non-League game with, amongst others, Crawley and Stafford Rangers.
Proffitt, now 25, has most recently being playing for Hednesford but has been given the thumbs up to join Drayton by new management duo Rob Smith and Larry Chambers, who were formerly in charge at AFC Telford United.
“Dorryl is a very talented player with an excellent pedigree,” said Drayton boss Simon Line.
Proffitt joins a squad who have yet to earn a point from their nine league matches to date.
But Line is confident his side can climb away from trouble after taking heart from the performance in Wednesday’s 1-0 FA Trophy replay defeat to higher-graded Worksop.
