Telford Tigers in rallying cry to fans
Thursday 21st October 2010, 6:00PM BST.
Telford Tigers have issued a rallying cry to ice hockey fans old and new ahead of this weekend’s home game against Manchester Phoenix – don’t let us be out-cheered by our visitors!
The match, on Sunday (5.30pm), is the first visit by Manchester since the side dropped down to the English Premier from the Elite League, and their supporters are so excited about a ‘local’ trip to Telford that they have promised to come in numbers.
In fact, their supporters’ club has initiated an online campaign to sell out the seating at Telford Ice Rink, so that the rinkside standing area downstairs can be opened up to spectators.
Tigers chairman Alan Gould said: “Earlier this week we heard that Manchester are bringing between 100-120 supporters with them on Sunday- and then more and more have pledged to come down for the game. We are calling on all ice hockey and sports fans, families, local businesses, anyone in the Telford community, to come along and make sure the support for Tigers is not drowned out by the noise of our guests.
“Our average crowds tend to be around 450 and we already expect more people to come and see Phoenix, so we are closer to selling out the 700 seats.”
