Stuart Whitehead seeks return to Bucks’ first team

AFC Telford United stalwart Stuart Whitehead hopes he has given boss Andy Sinton food for thought at he attempts to regain a regular first team spot.

Whitehead caught the eye with an impressive display in Saturday’s goalless draw at Blue Square North leaders Alfreton on Saturday.

But that was the first start of the campaign for the former Shrewsbury centre half and only came about due to an injury to Sean Newton.

He missed the first four weeks of the season because he was training to be a firefighter, and has since been kept out by the impressive form of the Bucks backline.

“I enjoyed Saturday and we will just have to wait and see what the manager decides for the next game (at Stalybridge on Saturday week),” said Whitehead.

“The gaffer was very complimentary about me in pre-season and said some nice things and it was unfortunate I missed the first few weeks.

“I knew I would have to wait for my chance and I haven’t got any qualms.

“The back four have been superb and if I had been one of them and been dropped then I would have been upset.

“I did speak to the gaffer about going out on loan to get some football because I think there was interest from a couple of clubs.

“But I enjoy it at Telford and I’m happy to bide my time.”
