Turner admits Shrews are not at their best
Tuesday 19th October 2010, 11:00AM BST.
Boss Graham Turner today reflected on his first ‘checkpoint’ of Shrewsbury Town’s season, happy to be amongst the leaders but declaring: “There is a lot more to come.”
Turner has long maintained that the League Two table would begin to take shape after 12 games.
Town arrived at that point in fifth position in the table after Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Lincoln ended a five game winless sequence.
But Turner insists his team have not been firing on all cylinders in recent outings – despite that success.
“The table is beginning to take shape and we are in the top group,” he said.
“But I think there is a lot more to come from us than what we have shown in the last four or five games.
“Since the Port Vale game we haven’t been at our best and even though we won 2-0 on Saturday, which we are grateful for, the performance still didn’t reach the standards of the start of the season.
“But the fact we are in that top group at this stage is room for optimism.”
Meanwhile, Town’s hierarchy have declared themselves delighted with the inspection by two UEFA officials yesterday as part of England’s bid for the 2013 European under-21 Championship.
