Turner still has plans to strengthen Shrews squad

Boss Graham Turner admits he is looking to strengthen his Shrewsbury Town squad – as long as any deal remains within the club’s pay structure.
Turner this week missed out on a deal to sign Crewe Alexandra striker Calvin Zola, revealing that they could not agree financial terms with the player and his agent.
But he insisted the search would go on after this afternoon’s home clash with Lincoln – praising chairman Roland Wycherley for his support in targeting the right men.
“Clearly we are on the look-out for good players,” said Turner. “There are areas of the squad that I am still looking to strengthen.
“I have been fortunate that in everything I have wanted to do so far the chairman has backed me.
“That would have been the same in the case of Calvin Zola but, having been a chairman myself (at Hereford), I think you have to be true to the pay structure within a club and that’s what we’ve done.
“We could not agree terms with Calvin but we are still on the lookout for good players.”
Turner insists there is scope in his 26-man squad for new faces to be added to the mix.
“We have five or six young players who are still making their way in the game and I wouldn’t consider those too much part of the first team although they might get an opportunity from time to time,” said the Town chief.
“They are young players of the future for the club so we haven’t actually got a massively big squad in terms of senior players.
“We’d look a little bit light in one or two positions if we did have problems and I think also, at different times of the season you have to freshen up the dressing room.
“The introduction of a new senior player or two coming in on loan or on a permanent deal keeps everybody on their toes and provides competition for places.”
