Romulus 2 Market Drayton Town 0
Tuesday 12th October 2010, 12:05PM BST.
Market Drayton Town used up the last of their nine lives as they slumped to yet another Evo Stik League division one south defeat.
It was a ninth successive league defeat for the Greenfields outfit who still find themselves rooted to the foot of the table.
And Line admitted mistakes at both ends of the pitch proved costly to his team once again.
“It wasn’t a game that we deserved to lose and we were on top for the much part,” said Drayton boss Simon Line.
“But we ended up conceding two poor goals at very important stages and we didn’t work their goalkeeper when our chances came along.
“They are things that are becoming increasingly frustrating.”
Struggling Drayton had looked to have reached the interval unscathed after an uneventful first period.
But they conceded the opener on the stroke of half-time when David Barnett was allowed a free header at the far post to meet a free kick.
“It was particularly frustrating because we had two or three chances to do the simple thing and clear the ball which meant they wouldn’t even have had a free-kick,” bemoaned Line.
Drayton attempted to turn the tide after the break with Martyn Davies, Tom Rogers and Grant Goodhead all going close.
But their hopes of a recovery were ended 18 minutes from time when goalkeeper Andy Pryce was caught in possession attempting to dribble the ball back into his area, allowing Marvin Johnston to slot the ball into the empty net.
The only glimmer of light for Drayton comes with a fixture list which sees their next five games – a mixture of league and cup action – all being played at home.
“It’s the chance for us to get a few points on the board and hopefully make some progress in the cup competitions,” added Line.
