AFC Telford out of FA Cup
Tuesday 12th October 2010, 11:32PM BST.
AFC Telford United were the victims of an FA Cup giantkilling as they lost 5-4 on penalties to nine-man Buxton after a 2-2 draw at the New Bucks Head.
Telford started the night as overwhelming favourites but were served notice of what was to come when Kieran Lugsden fired visitors Buxton into a third minute lead in the third qualifying round replay.
The game seemed to have turned on its head when Buxton skipper Gregg Anderson was sent off for a foul on Adam Proudlock and Alex Meechan buried the resulting penalty.
Mark Reed could have restored Buxton’s lead on 42 minutes but missed the penalty. His side held on gamely in the second half but were down to nine men when Tommy Agus was sent off for a second caution two minutes from the end of normal time.
Telford looked to have won it when Adam Proudlock put them in front two minutes into extra-time and Andy Brown should have made the game safe, missing a 112th minute penalty.
Buxton made him pay for that error, equalising with the last kick of the game through Kamahl Whight to take it to penalties.
The first six spot-kicks all went in but James Lawrie hit the bar for Telford and the men from the Peak District then saw it through – Scott Maxfield sinking the decisive penalty to end a dramatic contest.

Pathetic desplay. Too many of the players thought they would walk it and paid the price. Disjointed, arrogant and hapless sums it up – they should hang their heads in shame as all bar Proudlock let the club and the fans down badly.
