Shrewsbury Town boss considers fresh faces

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner has hinted he will remain on the hunt for loan signings – but Crewe striker Calvin Zola will not be heading to the Greenhous Meadow for now.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Morecambe stretched Town’s winless streak to five games and represents the first dip in form this term.

And, despite Town lying fifth in the table, Turner has suggested he will continue to search for fresh faces – if he feels he can enhance his squad – ahead of next Saturday’s visit of managerless Lincoln.

“I think sometimes you need to freshen the dressing room up and the best way of achieving that is to bring one or two new faces in,” said Turner.

“So if they are available and they can improve the side, we will do something about it.”

Crewe boss Dario Gradi revealed on Friday that Congolese striker Zola was a target for Shrewsbury – but that deal appears to be dead for the time being at least.

“We have spoken to them and I think he is a good player but I’m told the lad doesn’t want to go anywhere on loan,” said Turner.

Turner admitted the drying up of goals is a worry after his side, who were free-scoring at the start of the campaign – managed to find the net just once in their last four outings.

“You look at the make-up of the side and there is a fair bit of firepower going forward,” he added.

“We are not producing the final cross or pass – or the execution of a finish.

“That is obviously a cause of concern.

“But what we have to do is analyse it constructively this week and start again.”
