Blog: Slight panic at Shrewsbury Town

A slight panic is setting in after Town’s disappointing run of form continued at the weekend, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.
For the first time this season I admit to having some doubts about our promotion chances following a lacklustre 1-0 defeat away at Morecambe on Saturday.
It completed a pretty miserable week after we suffered penalty heartache in the cup to Bury.
With very few changes to the team it is hard to figure out why we have hit a bad patch. Maybe it’s because we have just come up against decent opposition or maybe we have become too predictable.
Our exciting wingers have gone far too quiet in games, the strikers aren’t getting enough service, our passing game has gone and we continue to make silly errors at the back. Not a good combination if we are serious about promotion.
Every team goes through a bad patch in a season and let’s hope we are getting ours out the way early and will quickly move on from here.
Apart from changing the personel, Turner will have to stick with what he has got and get the players motivated so that they hit the heights they showed at the beginning of the season.
In transfer news Town have been linked with a loan move for Crewe striker Calvin Zola.
I think he would be a great signing as he is quick, strong and scored a lot of goals in League Two last season.
I think he is different to what we have got, and with injuries to Elder and Bright we are in need of more firepower to complement Harrold, Robinson and Bradshaw.
It is great to see Turner is looking to strengthen the squad and is not just satisfied with what he has got at his disposal. I would also advise him at looking at improving our central midfield area and central defence.
What do fans think of signing Zola?
After our bad run of form Town need to get back to wining ways fast or before we know it our season could be turned upside down.
Next up is a winnable home game against struggling Lincoln on Saturday. Town need to beat teams like this if they are serious about promotion and should be boosted by Lincoln’s poor away form this season were they have only won one league game.
