Shrewsbury hope to get wise with win at Morecambe
Friday 8th October 2010, 1:31PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town will be bidding to spoil the Morecambe party as they look to return to winning ways in League Two tomorrow.
Morecambe’s new 6,500-capacity Globe Arena stadium will be officially opened by Jim McGuigan – father of chairman Peter – prior to Shrewsbury’s clash with the Shrimps.
And Graham Turner’s side will be out to dent the celebrations as they search for their first victory in five attempts.
The Shrimps have yet to win a League match in five outings at the Globe Arena, their only success coming in the Carling Cup triumph over Coventry.
And Shrewsbury boss Turner believes his side can exploit the fact that Sammy McIlroy’s men are still adjusting to their new surroundings.
“Christie Park (their old ground) was never an easy place to go and they were always a a physically strong side there,” said Turner.
“But I think they have had one or two difficulties on the new ground.
“Talking to people at Bury on Tuesday night, they went there and won 4-1 so they obviously can be beaten at the new stadium.
“Looking back at this club, they might have had difficulties when they first moved grounds.
“Visiting clubs go to the new ground, take one look at it and think ‘I fancy a bit of this’. It can be a handicap (for the home side) so we have to go there and prove that right.”
Turner is hoping his side improve on the displays in the last two outings.
“The one thing we tried to build into training yesterday was trying to re-introduce pace into the side. It’s not just the speed of movement, it’s also speed of thought.”
Town are boosted by the return of Dutch forward Benjamin van den Broek after a three week absence with an ankle injury.
Sean McAllister is also back in contention but there are doubts over defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and midfielder Craig Disley.
Meanwhile sources at Crewe today linked Town with a loan move for striker Calvin Zola.

That truly is a terrible headline. I hope the writer of this article has been disciplined for it.
Fingers crossed that “Turner’s Terriers” will “bringme sunshine” tomorrow.
