Torquay are no pushovers, Turner tells Shrews
Friday 1st October 2010, 2:40PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner has warned his squad not to under-estimate tomorrow’s visitors Torquay United as his side go in search of three vital points.
Town suffered a disappointing 1-0 reverse at Port Vale in midweek but will fancy their chances of a maximum return against a Torquay side who haven’t tasted victory since August.
Town are defending an unbeaten home record at the Greenhous Meadow and will be keen to return to winning ways having picked up just one point from two away trips to drop out of the automatic promotion places.
But Turner knows the Gulls, who began the season with four straight wins before their recent blip, still present a tricky test.
He said: “We know they’ll be a difficult side to beat but we’ve got to bounce back from the disappointment of only taking one point from those two away games.
“I’m confident in this group of players and I’m confident in their ability to get results and I’ve got no need to change my opinion of that despite the last two results.
“I’m hopeful we can produce the goods and get three points.
“We’ve got a good home record and we’ve done well at home so far this season so we want to make sure we keep that going as long as possible.”
Turner is likely to name an unchanged side with none his injured trio expected to feature.
Dutchman Benjamin van den Broek remains a long-term absentee with an ankle injury while Kiwi striker Kris Bright has also been ruled out.
Midfielder Sean McAllister, who missed Tuesday’s loss at Port Vale, also remains a doubt.
Turner added: “We have picked up a couple of little knocks and niggles — Kris won’t be used as he is suffering with his Achillies and Sean is touch and go.”
