Shrewsbury Town suffered their second League Two defeat of the season as they were edged out by near rivals Port Vale.
Chances were few and far between in the League Two battle, but the game was decided with a 25-yard strike from Vale midfielder Gary Roberts 17 minutes from time.
Ian Sharps almost grabbed a dramatic late equaliser for Shrewsbury as he struck the post, but Vale held on the move four points clear at the top of the table.
