Chris Neal predicts Shrewsbury Town will bounce back
Monday 27th September 2010, 1:43PM BST.
Goalkeeper Chris Neal has backed Shrewsbury Town - and himself – to bounce back from Saturday’s late disappointment in tomorrow’s big League Two derby at Port Vale.
Town looked on course to record a fine away victory at Wycombe Wanderers as they led 2-1 heading into injury time thanks to Tom Bradshaw’s first Town goal of the season and a Lionel Ainsworth wonder strike.
But hopes of a success – which would have kept Shrewsbury top of the table – were dashed by an injury time leveller from Lewis Montrose.
Goalkeeper Chris Neal was quick to admit he could have done better with Montrose’s dramatic equaliser, but believes Shrewsbury can shrug off that disappointment tomorrow night.
“It did feel like a defeat in the changing room after the game but a point is a point and we can go again at Port Vale,” said the 24-year-old.
“It’s going to be a massive test and a great atmosphere there. But we are playing well at the moment and creating chances.”
On the late leveller, Neal – who has displayed some impressive recent form and was man-of-the-match against Rotherham earlier this month – added: “I’m absolutely gutted about the goal.
“We went 1-0 down and showed great spirit to go 2-1 up.
“I’m not going to make excuses for myself. It did move a little bit but I should have done better with it.
“I have got to react well now and hold my head up high and work hard in training.”
Meanwhile, manager Graham Turner looks set to have to make at least one change to his starting line-up for tomorrow.
Midfielder Sean McAllister limped off after 15 minutes at Adams Park with a hamstring strain which is likely to leave him sidelined for several weeks.
That could well mean a start for Kevin McIntyre while central defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff is also a doubt after suffering a dead leg at Wycombe.
