Wycombe 2 Shrewsbury 2
Sunday 26th September 2010, 7:27AM BST.
A late error from goalkeeper Chris Neal denied Shrewsbury the victory which would have kept them top of League Two.
Neal allowed a 20-yard shot from Lewis Montrose to slip through his grasp in the third minute of stoppage time to allow Wycombe to salvage a point they barely deserved.
It was harsh on Shrewsbury who were the dominant force in the opening period, hitting the woodwork twice through Ian Sharps and Matt Harrold and going close on several other occasions.
It was against the run of play when Wycombe took a 63rd minute lead when Andy Sandell hit a sweetly struck free-kick into the top corner.
Shrewsbury were level on 76 minutes thanks to a header from substitute Tom Bradshaw who converted a flowing move involving Mark Wright and Lionel Ainsworth with his first touch.
Ainsworth then looked to have won it for Shrewsbury with an early goal of the season contender, skipping past two Wycombe defenders before unleashing a 25-yard rocket which flew into the roof of the net.
But Neal’s late blunder ensured the spoils were shared.

Perhaps before highlighting another’s error you should ensure that this report contained no mistakes. Town would not have stayed top if they had won 2-1 as Port Vale’s goal difference would have been better.

I was not at the game but have watched the goal on TV now about 10 times. It’s not exactly a Robert Green howler is it? If you look at his positioning he is protected by the defence and also consider that the ball was still gaining velocity when entering the net – I find it remarkable that the Shropshire Star are labelling Chris Neal for Wycombe’s goal. Perhaps James Garrison would like to go in goal and be ‘blind’ and then be blamed for a goal that quite frankly was a great shot.
As the previous poster said, if they had of won 2-1 this story makes even less sense as Vale would still have been top.
