Manager Graham Turner has backed table-topping Shrewsbury Town to pass their “test of resolve” as they prepare for arguably their toughest week of the season so far.

Town head to Wycombe, one of the pre-season favourites for League Two, tomorrow before travelling to Port Vale and then entertaining Torquay – two teams who begin the weekend in the top four.

And Turner believes his side have the credentials to cope with that demanding schedule of games over the coming seven days.

“It is going to be a test of our resolve and our ability to stay ahead of the pack,” said the Shrewsbury boss.

“The signs so far have been good and we are hoping that will continue.”

Turner will wait until later today until judging whether winger Lionel Ainsowrth will recover from a slight groin strain to take his place in the squad for the trip to Adams Park.

“Lionel will train with us for the first time (this week) today,” added Turner.

“We will reserve our assessment until after training but we will also be looking at the fact we have got two games in four days.”

Defender Daniel O’Donnell made his comeback from a hernia operation in Wednesday’s reserve team 4-3 defeat at Accrington Stanley.

That proved he is on the road to recovery and he could be pencilled in for another outing in a reserve friendly against Crewe on Wednesday.

Striker Kris Bright is a doubt with an Achilles problem which forced him to miss the game at Accrington.

Meanwhile, Turner has backed former Wycombe striker Matt Harrold to thrive on his return to the club he left in the summer to join Shrewsbury.

“It’s always nice to go back to your former club and put in a performance,” added Turner.

“Matt will be hoping he scores and we win the game but he has got nothing to prove.

“We know he’s a good striker and that he’s capable of scoring goals.”
