Gemma Howell is the best of British
Thursday 23rd September 2010, 11:33AM BST.
Shropshire’s Gemma Howell has been singled out as one of Great Britain’s outstanding judo stars – being named the 2009-10 junior player of the year.
Howell, 20, has just come back from finishing in seventh place in the world championships in Japan.
She will be competing in the GB World Cup in Birmingham next weekend.
And she will be presented with her award at a gala dinner at the city’s Botanical Gardens on the evening of the opening day.
The former Thomas Telford and Adams Grammar pupil – who is now based in Dartford – was selected by a vote of the membership of the British Judo Association.
Howell is no stranger to lifting BJA awards, having also been named junior player of the year last year.
She is also a three-time former winner of the most improved female player award – a category chosen by GB’s performance staff.
