Town return to the top but the challenge now is so stay there, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

Following last week’s disappointment at Gillingham it was going to be interesting to see how Shrewsbury Town’s new-look team would react and in the end the players can be very pleased with their efforts after the victory over Northampton.

The players looked sharp, worked hard and their confidence didn’t seem to have been knocked following their first defeat of the season.

Seven matches into the league season and Town can be very proud of their efforts so far after sitting top of the league. But now we have returned there we cannot get complacent and must expect that we are the team that everyone will want to beat.

The best thing the players can do is forget about league positions and go into every game with the same mentality and give 100 per cent.

With Robinson and Harrold looking good up front armed with a strong midfield, my only fear at the moment is the strength of our defence and whether we will be able to stop conceding soft goals.

Perhaps we could use some of the Joe Hart money to buy a quality centre half in January.

Looking at the other teams in the division, the ones that could be are biggest threats are Port Vale, Chesterfield and Rotherham.

Who do fans think are the teams to watch out for?

Next up for Town is an away trip to mid-table Wycombe and following last week’s blip at Gillingham the team will be looking to return to picking up points on the road to sustain their place at the top.
