Basil Griffiths in storming start to golf’s Senior Home Internationals
Wednesday 15th September 2010, 9:39AM BST.
Shropshire & Herefordshire golfer Basil Griffiths has made a storming start to the Senior Home Internationals.
Griffiths, of Llanymynech, was part of the Welsh team who played out an exciting 4.5-4.5 draw with hosts Scotland on the opening day at Crail yesterday.
And Griffiths, aged 60 but still playing off one, collected one-and-a-half points from his two matches.
He teamed up with Keith Stimson to halve the morning foursomes with David Gardner and Tony Stafford.
And Griffiths then held his nerve to defeat Colin Christy one-up in the afternoon singles.
Wales and Griffiths were today due to take on favourites Ireland, who started their campaign with a 6-3 triumph over England yesterday.
