Sinton urges AFC Telford to focus after flying start
Friday 10th September 2010, 11:29AM BST.
AFC Telford United chief Andy Sinton has urged his team not to bask in their early-season glory and re-focus for tomorrow’s testing trip to Solihull Moors.
The Bucks have made a flying start to the Blue Square Bet North season with five victories and two draws from their seven games to date.
But Sinton knows his team must keep up their impressive form if they are to maintain their place amongst the high-fliers ahead of meeting a Solihull side who have won all three home League matches to date.
“Confidence is high and all through the club, there is a great spirit,” said Sinton.
“But what we have said to the players is that what we achieved so far is consigned to history.
“We have to get ourselves mentally right to go to Solihull and get a result.
“They are a strong team, particularly at home. They are a big threat at set pieces so we don’t want to give unnecessary free-kicks away.
“We need to match their work rate and then hopefully we can produce the creativity we need.”
Sinton will be forced into at least one change with on-song winger Greg Mills serving a one-match ban.
Trinidad & Tobago winger Josh Johnson, a new recruit this week, and Philip John are both in contention for the starting role.
Goalkeeper Ryan Young will return to first-team duty after he was suspended for last week’s 1-1 draw with Blyth Spartans when Daniel Platt deputised.
Meanwhile, Sinton has confirmed that former Wolves striker Adam Proudlock is expected to continue training with the club next week.
The trialist striker scored a hat-trick in Wednesday’s 7-0 friendly victory over Chasetown.
“I spoke to Adam last night and he is enjoying it here,” added the Bucks boss.
“He wants to get some more training under his belt and then we will sit down and talk again.”
