Shrewsbury set for final of Birmingham League campaign
Friday 3rd September 2010, 12:24PM BST.
Title-chasing Shrewsbury will tomorrow attempt to set up a thrilling final weekend to the Birmingham League premier division campaign.
Ed Foster’s side entertain Wolverhampton in the penultimate game of the campaign knowing victory will maintain the pressure on leaders Knowle & Dorridge.
Second placed Shrewsbury trail the much fancied league leaders by 10 points, and Foster is keen to take the championship race to the wire.
“It’s brilliant we have two games to go and we are still in with a chance of winning the league,” said Foster.
“The fact we are within 10 points opens up more permutations because a losing draw for Knowle & Dorridge and a win for us would make a huge difference.
“But we have just to focus on our own performance and make sure we do what we can to win the game.”
And Shrewsbury know that will not be easy after being beaten at Wolverhampton by six wickets earlier in season.
“That came during a bad couple of weeks for us and it may be that we come to regret that at the end of the season,” added the Shrewsbury skipper.
“They are a decent side but they have still got a few relegation worries so there is plenty to play for.”
Alex Blofield misses the final two games of the season so Matt Swift comes in.
Wellington renew an old rivalry when they travel to face a Barnt Green team who finished runners-up to the Shropshire side when they won they won the league in 2003 and 2004.
“If you want to be successful at this level then you have to compete against sides like Barnt Green,” said team manager Terry O’Connor.
“They have had a great deal of success over the years.”
Opening batsman Steve Lamb returns after missing the Bank Holiday defeat to Shrewsbury.
Shifnal face their final division one away game of the season as they head to Attock.
“We can’t go up or go down but we still want to play the best we can,” said captain Stuart Blount.
Tony Parton and Chris Murrell are unavailable from the side beaten by Dorridge on Monday.
