Graham Turner urges Shrewsbury Town to turn on style
Saturday 28th August 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Manager Graham Turner has vowed that Shrewsbury Town will attempt to “pass the ball to promotion” and hailed supporters’ understanding of the style.
Turner has put the emphasis on maintaining possession since replacing Paul Simpson as manager in the close season.
And he believes that is a style which can suit Shrewsbury well in the months to come.
“We have to win games and I believe the best way of doing that is the way we are playing,” said the Town boss.
“If I felt that knocking it long and running after it was the way forward, then that is what we would do.
“But I think in this day and age, you can pass the ball to victories and pass the ball to promotion.
“What has pleased me is that the supporters are appreciating how we are trying to play the game. Last Saturday against Aldershot finished 1-1 and we had a little period where we struggled a bit.
“But the crowd very much appreciated the fact we are trying to pass the ball and work it into good areas and it was the same on Tuesday against Premier League opposition (in Stoke).
“It is pleasing to know the supporters appreciate the quality of football we are playing.”
