Shropshire cheers on TNS ahead of CSKA Sofia clash
Thursday 19th August 2010, 11:40AM BST.
Good wishes today poured in for The New Saints Football Club ahead of the next chapter of their European adventure.
The Oswestry-based club will take on Bulgarian giants CSKA Sofia in the Europa League tonight.
The Welsh league champions start as underdogs and are expected to have a battle on their hands to take anything from their hosts, who have won their domestic league 31 times.
Ahead of one of the biggest nights in the club’s history, Shropshire Council leader Keith Barrow said he hoped The New Saints would be able to set up an exciting return leg on August 26 at Wrexham’s Racecourse stadium.
Mr Barrow said: “They are flying the flag for Shropshire and I am sure everyone here will hope they do well.”
Oswestry town mayor Elaine Channon said she hoped The New Saints would enjoy more European success. She said: “I wish them every success. It is nice to see Oswestry and Shropshire represented on the European stage.”
