Sean McAllister: Shrews’ fans play a big part
Wednesday 18th August 2010, 11:00AM BST.
Midfielder Sean McAllister has hailed the early season backing from Shrewsbury Town supporters, declaring: “With you behind us, there’s no stopping us.”
Almost 7,000 were at the Greenhous Meadow for the opening League victory at Bradford while estimates suggest Town fans made up at least half of the 2,302 crowd for Saturday’s 1-0 away victory at Macclesfield.
And McAllister admitted that level of support could play a huge part in Town’s push for promotion over the coming months.
“The fans have been superb and it’s a big boost,” said the former Sheffield Wednesday man.
“A lot of belief has been injected back into them after last season’s disappointment.
“They all seem to be very happy with the way things are going so far and everyone can see the club is moving forward.
“It’s up to us on the pitch to keep the belief within the crowd and, with them behind us, there is no stopping us really.”
McAllister, meanwhile, insists he is gaining fitness with every outing after playing the last two games because of the suspension to Kevin McIntyre, who is available after Saturday’s game with Aldershot.
Benefit
“I didn’t get much game time in pre-season,” said the 22-year-old McAllister.
“Before I came here I only had 15 minutes for Yeovil in a benefit match which wasn’t played at the highest of tempos.
“I’ve got two lots of 90 minutes under my belt now so I’m getting close to full sharpness and I think I will start feeling the benefit of the games.
“I’d like to be a bit sharper on the ball at times but that will come with more game time so hopefully it will be all guns blazing from now on.”
Striker Kris Bright made a scoring return from a summer shoulder operation last night, completing the 90 minutes and finding the net in the 3-1 reserve team victory at Bury.
