AFC Telford set to take on Ellesmere Port
Tuesday 17th August 2010, 3:10PM BST.
Andy Sinton is demanding more of the same from AFC Telford United as they aim to follow up their opening day masterclass away at Vauxhall Motors tonight.
The Bucks began the Blue Square Bet North season with a bang, thrashing Hyde FC 5-0 on Saturday.
But boss Sinton is warning against any sense of complacency as they travel to Ellesmere Port for this evening’s clash.
The Motormen only avoided relegation last term because Northwich Victoria were expelled from the league due to financial matters, and they began on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat at Ilkeston.
But the Telford chief is not about to take the task lightly, insisting his side must not get carried away by one win.
“It’s no good putting on a performance like that and winning 5-0 if we turn up at Vauxhall Motors tonight and undo all the good work just by a lack of application or thinking we’ve arrived,” said Sinton.
“We have to keep a lid on it and not get too excited. The players have to go out and do it again.
“The approach needs to be exactly the same, the attitude needs to be spot on. We’ll look to go there, be positive and get the right result.”
Sinton could name an unchanged line-up this evening, with no major injury problems.
Striker Alex Meechan took a kick to the leg against Hyde that left him limping but has now shaken that off.
Andy Brown, scorer of the second goal on Saturday, had to come off with tight hamstrings but also looks set to feature.
That means the only men definitely ruled out are winger Sean Evans, who is now home recuperating after breaking his leg, and midfielder Paul Harrison – whose international clearance has still not come through from Spain.
- Telford dropped to third in the early table as a result of the two games played last night – Workington hitting the summit thanks to their 3-2 win at Hyde and Boston going second with a 1-0 victory against Hinckley.
