Turner to keep midweek men for Macclesfield match
Friday 13th August 2010, 11:15AM BST.
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner will name an unchanged side as he looks to cure Town’s travel sickness at Macclesfield tomorrow.
The Town chief is set to keep faith with the same squad that came from three goals down to beat Charlton Athletic in the Carling Cup in midweek, meaning Sean McAlister will keep his place in midfield.
Turner said: “The side virtually picks itself. Kris Bright isn’t quite ready and Kevin McIntyre is suspended so we go with pretty much the same XI and pretty much the same subs. There’s just one decision I need to make on a substitute.”
Shrewsbury have won just nine away matches in League Two over the past two seasons but did manage to get three points from their last trip to Moss Rose in February.
And Turner is keen to ensure Town’s travelling band of supporters have more to cheer about this time around.
He added: “We need to sort out the away record but we had nine new players in the team on Tuesday night and they won’t have any idea about that. They will just be coming in and looking to win games.”
Confidence in the Town camp is sky high after the opening day win over Bradford City and the stunning comeback against Charlton, but Turner is wary of the threat posed by the Silkmen.
“At this stage of the season there is no pattern to the league and we know Macclesfield will be well-prepared. They have one or two players who are dangerous at this level.
“But none of that matters if we do our job. I think if we play as well as we can then we will be a match for most teams in this league.”
And the Town boss is out to avoid a case of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s Show’ when his side make the trip north.
“Sometimes after you put a lot of effort into a game and get a great result like the one we did against Charlton then you have a bad result in the next game.
“But I think we have enough experience in there to avoid that.”
- Town’s second round Carling Cup tie away at Stoke City will take place on Tuesday, August 24, with a 7.45pm kick off.
