Four Shropshire judokas have been named in a 20-strong Great Britain squad for the 2010 World Championships in Japan.

Telford duo Gemma Howell and Kelly Edwards and Shrewsbury pair Sarah Adlington and Danny Williams will jet out to Tokyo between September 9 and 13.

All four will be making their World Championship debuts as the countdown to the London Olympics in 2012 gathers pace.

Howell, who has just turned 20, is selected in the under-57kgs section, having made a successful return from a lengthy injury lay-off. Edwards, 19, of Wrekin Star Judo Club, will travel to represent GB in the under-48kgs division.

Adlington, a well established international player from Bayston Hill, will compete in the over-78kgs section.

And Shrewsbury 21-year-old Williams – the only Shropshire man making the trip – will be going for glory in the under-73kgs.
