Delighted boss Graham Turner hailed Shrewsbury Town’s stunning Carling Cup comeback – and set his sights on a money-spinning run.

Town shocked League One giants Charlton Athletic at the Greenhous Meadow last night, recovering from going three goals down to win 4-3.

And, having also come from behind to beat Bradford in their League Two opener on Saturday, he insisted the confidence in the Town camp is sky high.

“The thing for us is the winning mentality – that’s what you need in the club whether it’s cup ties or league matches and we want it to breed,” he declared.

“You get that belief in the dressing room if you win games and it spreads.

“From last nigh’s result and last Saturday’s there is a belief amongst the players in what we’re trying to do.

“The income from a decent cup run would be very welcome and another home draw against a big club would be great.”

Jake Robinson had got Shrewsbury back into the tie before an own goal gave them further hope going into half-time.

Defender Daniel O’Donnell headed them level and it was left to striker Matt Harrold to bag the winner.

Turner also insisted he was not concerned by a shaky defensive performance, despite admitting that the three goals conceded in six first half minutes could have been avoided.

“There will be other occasions when the defence earns us points,” said the Town boss.

“It wasn’t their night last night but they were playing against some very sharp forwards.

“We can put that right but I was not unduly worried about what happened defensively, we can work on that.”

l Shrewsbury will discover their second round opponents when the draw is made live on Sky Sports News this evening after the remaining first round matches have been concluded.
