Quatt’s dream of Lord’s is over
Monday 2nd August 2010, 12:45PM BST.
Quatt’s dream of reaching the nPower Village Cup final at Lord’s is over after they lost their quarter final to Warwickshire side Fillongley by 21 runs, writes ALEX JAMES.
The home side batted first and posted 201-9 off their 40 overs with skipper Craig Jones taking 3-64 and Gareth Jones picking up 3-40.
In reply Quatt made the worst possible start with opener Adrian Evans out before a run had been scored. The middle order steadied the ship with Craig Jones top scoring with 41.
Craig Harris made 35 and wicketkeeper Dave Street 26 – but after Jones was seventh man out with 41 more needed, the Warwickshire side picked up the final three wickets for 20 runs to wrap up victory in the penultimate over.
And the result left Quatt skipper Jones wondering what might have been.
He said: “It’s frustrating because on another day we could have beaten that team.
“But we just weren’t quite good enough and they played the better cricket and deserved to win.
“It was definitely a game we could have won. We would have taken chasing 200 before we went out because it was quite a small pitch and a good wicket.
“We bowled and fielded quite well but we just lost wickets at key times. We didn’t play that badly and a few of us got some decent scores in the middle order – and if one of us could have batted until the end we would probably have won.
“It was a really good day out and we’re just frustrated we couldn’t win the game – there’s always next year though.”
Quatt forfeited their Marston’s Shropshire Premier League game with leaders Madeley yesterday as it clashed with the quarter-final tie.
