Quatt turn focus to Lord’s chance

Quatt head into the biggest game in their history on Sunday hoping all the attention will finally focus on what happens on the pitch.

They travel to Fillongley in Warwickshire in the quarter final of the nPower Village Cup (2pm) knowing a win would mean they were just one game away from the final at Lord’s.

The build-up to the last eight tie has been overshadowed by Quatt’s decision to forfeit a Marston’s Shropshire Premier League match with top-of-the table Madeley tomorrow.

But Quatt Sunday skipper Craig Jones wants to draw a line under the controversy.

He said: “We’ve been able to focus fully on the game and hopefully we can get a good result. We’re already nervous so who knows what we’ll be like if we actually win this game.

“We’re pretty strong in terms of availability. We’ll be making one change to the side brining in Eugene McCarney in place of James Williamson. Eugene hasn’t been available to us until now and he can bat and bowl so that is the thinking behind it.

“He offers a bit more to the bowling because we felt we were a bit light there last time out.”

Jones added that the side are stepping somewhat into the unknown with the visit to Fillongley.

He said: “We don’t know much about them but I think they’re fifth in the Warwickshire league and we’re fifth in the Shropshire league and they’re at the same level so it should be a close game.

“Apparently it’s a short boundary so if some of our big-hitters can get in then we might be able to score some runs.

“It could be a case of who holds their nerve and hopefully we might be able to do that.

“We’ve got a lot of experience and there’s not many young lads in our team so that might stand us in good stead.”

Quatt will be cheered on by a loyal band of supporters who will make the journey east.

“We’ve got a coach departing from the club and a few other players, wives and spectators are coming along so we should get about 40 people on the coach.

“We get a few coming to watch us anyway but it will be nice to have a bit of a following.”
