Stalwart midfielder Jamie Wood has signed a new deal with The New Saints which will keep him at Park Hall for his eighth season with the Welsh Premier club.

The 31-year-old former Manchester United man was not offered terms at the end of the last campaign, but has trained with the squad through the summer and played a part in both legs of the Champions League tie against Bohemians.

“I’m delighted Jamie is going to be a part of our squad again next season,” said manager Mike Davies. “He has been a model professional during pre-season and remains an important part of our plans.”

In a stop-start early career plagued by injury, Wood was a trainee at Old Trafford from 1997 to 1999 and spent time on-loan in Belgium with Royal Antwerp.

Also capped by the Cayman Islands, he joined Swansea City on a one year contract for 2002/3 but was injured during the season and was released on a free in May 2003.

Since joining Oswestry-based TNS in July 2003, he has scored 38 Welsh Premier goals.

* Tickets for The New Saints’ Champions League tie against Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht next week have now gone on sale.

The third qualifying round first leg clash has been confirmed for Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground next Tuesday with a 7.45pm kick-off and, as for the Bohemians tie in the last round, tickets are priced at £10 with no concessions.

However, 2,000 tickets will be given out free to school children.

They can be purchased from The Venue at Oswestry’s Park Hall, which is open from 7am (01691 684840) or from the Racecourse Ground (01978 262129).
