Shropshire cricketers’ hopes rest on weather
Tuesday 20th July 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Shropshire’s cricketers were today hoping to force a second Minor Counties Championship victory of the season – but were battling against the clock and a poor weather forecast.
The hosts were due to resume the final morning on 144-2 in their second innings, a lead of 94 over Cornwall at Whitchurch.
Shropshire had hoped to build on that advantage yesterday evening, only for the umpires to controversially abandon play 90 minutes early due to bad light.
The only hope of a home victory rests on scoring quick runs this morning and declaring to set Cornwall a target on a pitch offering increasing assistance to the slow bowlers.
But those hopes could be extinguished by a weather forecast suggesting rain will hit Whitchurch during today.
