Quatt’s Lord’s hopes remain alive

Quatt’s hopes of reaching a Lord’s final are alive and kicking after they confirmed Sunday’s big nPower Village Cup clash will go ahead.

The last 16 tie against Northop had been plunged into doubt because it clashed with a Marston’s Shropshire Premier League game with Trysull & Seisdon.

League officials had refused Quatt’s request to postpone that game for a week.

But the south Shropshire sidehave found enough players and venues to fulfil Sunday’s cup game and first and second XI league fixtures against Trysull.

The cup encounter will be played at Quatt, while Worfield have offered their ground to stage the first XI league game against Trysull.

As scheduled, the second XI league game will be staged at Trysull.

Supporters

“I have spoken to the players and we have decided that the first XI will play in the cup game,” said Craig Jones, who captains the side in the Sunday knockout competition.

“You never know if you will get chance to get to a final again.

“The second XI will now play the first XI league fixture and the team we send for the second XI match will be made up of three or four adults and the rest of the side will be made up of under 17s.”

“The only problem we have is that we won’t have many people at Quatt to help with the organisation with the cup game because they will be playing elsewhere – and we hear Northop are bringing a supporters coach.”

League chairman Mike Robinson confirmed the executive committee were happy with the decision to play the game against Trysull at Worfield.

But the controversy may not be over just yet. Should Quatt beat Northop, the quarter-final will be staged two weeks on Sunday – the day Quatt are due to travel to take on current leaders Madeley in a league game.
